Also known as a tree tomato, the tamarillo is shaped like a large plum and has smooth skin ranging from yellow-orange to bright red. Cutting it in half reveals dramatic blood red juice and two symmetrical lines of black seeds, which can be eaten. The fruit has a sharp taste and is best eaten with sugar.
